2024 CENTENNIAL CUP | NAVAN GRADS WIN 5-1 OVER COLLEGE FRANCAIS DE LONGUEUIL IN 1ST GAME OF PRELIMINARY ROUND

NAVAN OPENS UP THE 2024 CENTENNIAL CUP WITH A 5-1 WIN OVER THE LHJQ CHAMPION COLLEGE FRANCAIS DE LONGUEUIL

OAKVILLE, ON - The Navan Grads won 5-1 over the LHJQ Champion College Francais de Longueuil on Friday afternoon in their opening game of the 2024 Centennial Cup.

Navan Grads 2007 forward Shaan Kingwell opened the scoring on the power play at 4:20 of the first period; assists to Nathan Hargest and Devon Savignac. A few minutes later College Francais del Longeueil tied the score at 1-1 on a power play goal of their own at 6:05 of the period.

In the second period, special teams continued to play a big role in the game when Grads forward Cristobal Tola (unassisted) scored on the power play to make it 2-1 Navan. At the mid-way mark of the period, Sebbie Johnson knocked home a loose puck in the Longeuil crease to extend the Grads lead to 3-1; Colin MacDougall and Briggs Jowett had assists on the goal. As another Grads power play expired, Kingwell burried his 2nd of the game at 15:37 to make it 4-1 Navan after forty minutes of play; Nicholas Paone and Devon Savignac had the assists.

In the third period, Colin MacDougall made no mistake on the breakaway to make it 5-1 Grads; Kiki brown and Paone had the assists.

Navan Grads goaltender Jaeden Nelson made 30 saves and shut the door the rest of the way to secure the 5-1 win. Kingwell (2 goals) was named the Navan Grads player of the game in the Grads first win of the preliminary round at the Centennial Cup.

The win over College Francais De Longueuil was Head Coach and General Manager Marty Abrams 900th Career win behind the bench. Congratulations Marty!

The Navan Grads (1-0-0) will practice tomorrow and start to prepare for their next game on Sunday May 12th against the NOJHL Champion Greater Sudbury Cubs. Puck drop is at 4:00PM
