NAVAN, ONTARIO – The Navan Grads Junior A Hockey Club is heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our cherished owner, Steve Barban. Known for his steadfast dedication, passion, and unwavering belief in the team and community, Steve was more than just an owner - he was the heart and soul of the Navan Grads, inspiring players, staff, and fans alike.

For nearly 20 years, Steve’s support for the Grads went far beyond the rink. His love for the team and his commitment to helping young athletes thrive defined his legacy. Just last season, Steve’s dream became reality as the Grads celebrated our first Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) Championship.. Steve’s passion and guidance fueled this achievement, and his impact on our club is immearsurable. Alongside his role as our owner, Steve also served as Chairman of the Board for the CCHL.

Beyond hockey, Steve was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Krista, his son Tyler, of whom he was immensely proud, and his daughter Tori, who brought him endless joy. Steve’s devotion to his family was evident to everyone who knew him, and his warmth and kindness touched everyone he met.

General Manager Marty Abrams said, “On behalf of the Navan Grads, we would like to send our deepest condolences to Krista, Tyler, Tori and the entire Barban family. Steve Barban had a profound effect on many of us, and his love of the Navan Grads was constant and unwavering. We are all grateful for all that Steve provided for us. He was proud and passionate about the Grads and the entire CCHL as a whole.

On a personal note, Steve had a great influence on me. His humbleness and understanding nature will never be forgotten. I am so grateful I was able to spend time with him last May in Oakville watching and talking hockey. Without Steve Barban there would be no Navan Grads. I am honoured to call him a friend.”
