GRADS DEFEAT CORNWALL 4-3 IN A SHOOTOUT

NAVAN, ON – The Navan Grads erased a 3-0 deficit in the 1st period and stormed back to defeat the Cornwall Colts 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon at Navan Memorial Centre.

The Cornwall Colts opened the scoring at 2:18 of the 1st period on a goal by #39 Will German (Shaw, Speck-Meek).  The Colts built a 3-0 lead in the opening frame on goals by #17 Alex Fournier (unassisted) and #88 Keanu Krenn (Nadeua, Tallman).  The Grads began to chip away at the lead when #19 Ryan Burke scored on the power-play at 15:12 of the period. Alexandre Hogue and Devyn Orpana had the assists.

The Grads continued to press the Colts defenders in the middle frame and it was the power-play that would get them to within one goal of the Colts. At 5:09 of the period, #21 Devyn Orpana blasted a one-timer by the Cornwall goaltender. Alexandre Hogue (2) and Danyk Drouin had the assists.  At 14:30 veteran defenseman #65 Alexandre Hogue made no mistake when he went bar down from the top of the circles to tie the game 3-3.

Both goaltenders stood tall in the third period and during the 3-on-3 overtime and the game was decided in a shootout. Forward #23 Gabriel Crete answered a Cornwall tally to extend the shootout to another round. In the final round Ben West closed the door on the Cornwall shooter and Navan Grads #7 Blake Butler secured the 4-3 win when he beat goaltender Alex Houston in the fourth round of the shootout.

The Grads are back in action on Wednesday night at Jim Durrell Sports Complex when they face the Ottawa Jr. Senators at 7:30PM.
