
Pembroke Lumber Kings fall behind early and suffer loss to Navan Grads
Pembroke Lumber Kings fans had little to be thankful about on the Sunday afternoon of Thanksgiving weekend with the red and white being downed by the defending Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) champs the Navan Grads 8-3.
The Kings fell behind early, giving up four goals in the first period, then gave up another two in the second before finally getting on the scoreboard in the third.
Pembroke opened the third period scoring three straight, two on the power play and one shorthanded. Scoring for Pembroke was Spencer Bowes and Captain Eric Barnard with a pair. Both Easton Penna and Jayson Alegria tallied a pair of assists each.
Navan’s Vincent Latreille scored the Grads final two goals. Both were power play markers scored inside the final two minutes of the game.
The Lumber Kings were 2-for-6 on the power play while Navan went 3-for-6.
Jannes Kamp started in goal for Pembroke giving up four goals on 11 first period shots. Jack Ferguson took over for the second and third periods, stopping 30 of 34 shots. Pembroke peppered the Grads goaltender with 44 shots over the three periods of action.
Three stars
Navan’s Colin Holmes (2G,1A) and Louie Marcellino (2G) were the game’s first and second stars respectively. Barnard (2G) was awarded the game’s third star.
