WEST RECORDS HIS 1ST CCHL SHUTOUT; NAVAN DEFEATS CARLETON PLACE 4-0

CARLETON PLACE, ON - The Navan Grads improved to 13-6-0-1 on the season and goaltender Ben West ('03) registered his 1st career Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) shutout in the Grads 4-0 over the Carleton Place Canadians.

A scoreless first period saw the Navan Grads out shoot the Carleton Place Canadians 12-5 in the opening frame. Both goaltenders were sharp from the drop of the puck on Sunday afternoon.

In the second period, forward Ryan Burke ('03) opened the scoring the Grads when he converted a post to post pass from Blake Hall; forward Blake Butler had the other assist.  The Grads took the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

In the third period, the Grads continued to push the pace and at 1:52 Nolan Forster exited the penalty box and forward Devyn Orpana sprung Forster for the breakaway goal. A few minutes later it was forward Owen Parsons who received a pass from Burke and converted on the breakaway to extend the Grads lead to 3-0. At 16:30 of the period Ryan Burke added his second goal of the game to secure the Grads 4-0 win.

Goaltender Ben West made 20 saves on the afternoon. West was excellent for the Grads when tested throughout the game and picked up his 12th win on the season.
