Grads Franchise Unveils New Brand

The Central Canada Hockey League’s Cumberland Grads franchise has rebranded as the Navan Grads, effective immediately.

The change was announced late Thursday night on the main stage at the Navan Fair.

“This is where it all began for Grads hockey in 1974, and it’s an honour to repatriate the brand,” said Grads president and general manager Steve Barban. “I’m also very proud of the fact that Navan continues to be the smallest community in all of Canada that is home to — and supports — a Junior-A club.”

Navan’s name change is accompanied by a total rebrand: The team unveiled a beautiful crest which celebrates both their ‘graduate’ theme and the local agricultural community, along with two alternate logos.

The rebrand is a return to Navan’s roots; the Grads organization originally played under the Navan banner from its inception in 1974 to 1989.

The team will celebrate the name change with a “Navan Night” on Sun. Sept. 17, when the Grads will host the Kemptville 73’s.
