GRADS DEFEAT HAWKESBURY 6-1 IN HOME OPENER

NAVAN, ON - The Navan Grads (1-0-0-0) hosted the Hawkesbury Hawks (0-1-0-0) in their 2021-2022 Central Canada Hockey League home opener Sunday afternoon at Navan Memorial Centre. The Grads received goals from six different players on their way to a 6-1 win.

The Hawks opened the scoring at 5:48 of the 1st period, when Rylee Hlusiak deposited a goal behind goaltender Ben West. The Grads responded with the tying goal at 19:17 of the period when veteran forward Alec Lovisek ('01) scored his 4th goal of the season. Assists went to Calum Chau ('03) and Danyk Drouin ('01).

In the second period, the Grads took the lead and never looked back. Owen Parsons ('03) scored his 1st CCHL goal when he found a Cayden Faust ('03) rebound, defenseman Jack Cook ('03) had the other assist. The Grads extended the lead to 3-1 at 17:38 of the middle frame, when Colton Chipman ('03) scored his 1st CCHL goal on a breakaway. Assists went to Faust and Cook. The Grads added a power-play goal by Ryan Burke ('03), assisted by Justin Louette ('02) and Blake Hall ('03) to give them a 3 goal lead heading into the second intermission.

In the third period, forward Cayden Faust ('03) scored his second goal of the season to make it 5-1 Grads. Veteran forward Gabriel Crete added a shorthanded goal to make it 6-1 Grads.  Goaltender Ben West ('03) was outstanding in net, he made 33 saves to earn his second win of the season.

Navan will travel to Smiths Falls on Friday, October 1st for a 7:30PM puck drop and will host the Ottawa Jr. Senators on Sunday, October 3rd at 3:30PM at Navan Memorial Centre.
