Grads Announce Head Coach Favreau Moving up to the Halifax Mooseheads

Steve Barban, President and General Manager of the Cumberland Grads Junior A Hockey Club, is proud to announce that Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Sylvain Favreau will be leaving the club to join the Halifax MooseHeads of the QMJHL.

“Sylvain was offered an opportunity to coach at the next level and we understand the unique opportunity that coaching in Halifax represents. We could not have been more pleased with Sylvain’s work over the past few seasons. I’d like to thank Sylvain for his excellent work with our franchise and wish him continued success in Halifax,”

Favreau has been in the CCHL since 2009 but took over Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coaching duties with the Grads in the 2015-16 season. He was key to bringing back a winning attitude to the organization; but also always had player development as his main priority. Under Favreau’s tutelage and leadership several players have gone on to NCAA, CIS and Major Junior opportunities.

“I am very proud and excited to join such a storied franchise and to pursue my coaching career with the Mooseheads. I look forward to working with Jim Midgley and Jon Greenwood. The Mooseheads’ talented group of players and the organization’s focus on developing players to their full potential presents a great and welcome challenge.”

The search has begun for a replacement although the club executive does not have a time frame in mind, preferring instead to carefully screen all applicants for the best fit. To that end, the Grads will be accepting hockey resumes over the next few weeks.

The Cumberland Grads are a Junior A hockey club in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL). The club also owns and operates a spring team in the Central Development Hockey League (CDHL), as well as operating a Midget team on behalf of Hockey Eastern Ontario in the HEO U18 AAA Midget league.
